Sure, we students like running the show, but behind the scenes is
the staff of Hillel. They get the money we need, procure the stuff
we want, and are generally very useful in that way. Here's who they
are:
 |
Linda
Askenazi - Executive Director
Linda graduated Wurzweiler School of Social Work in 1981, to
become the Director of the Council of Jewish Organizations of
Flatbush. While working there, she was asked by a member of
the board to interview for the job of Director of Hillel of
Brooklyn College. Although at first not interested, Linda then
learned that she probably wouldn't have gotten the job, being
a woman and a social worker. Quickly changing her mind, she
applied and became the first non-rabbi and first woman to direct
the Brooklyn College Hillel. What began as a two year commitment
became a passion. Linda sees Hillel as the most unifying force
in the Jewish community. Working with a strong board of directors
on raising funds, Linda sees her role as ensuring that the Hillel
House remains attractive and comfortable to students. She also
spends much time supervising staff. As the visionary guiding
the Brooklyn College Hillel she considers it her responsibility
to see to it that everything done at Hillel reflects Jewish
values, notably: ethics, tolerance, compassion, and charity.
Linda is married to a Sephardic Jew from Mexico, has four children
and enjoys vegetarian food, jogging and talking a lot! |

Rachel
Porges - Office Manager
Rachel has been at Hillel since July, 1997 as the office administrator.
Most times you will find her at the computer doing the books,
working with the fund raising software or assisting Linda Askenazi.
She finds Hillel a lively spot on campus with events happening
all the time and enjoys being around the young, vibrant college
students coming in to Hillel. Away from Hillel she spends time
with her husband, three children and grandchildren. She enjoys
reading and knitting for her grandkids. |

Nadya
Drukker - Program Director & Director of The Center
for Russian Jewish Life
Nadya is not the just the Director of The Center for Russian
Jewish life as much as she is the center of Russian Jewish
Life at Hillel. So much so that the lines between Nadya-the
person and Nadya-the director have become blurred to the point
of being indistinguishable. Learn more about Nadya and her mission
on
The Russian Jewish Club page, which she wrote. |

Inna
Portnov - Program Professional & Social Services Coordinator
Inna Portnov graduated Brooklyn college in June, 2000 with a
degree in Health Science. She was first introduced to Hillel
during her senior year. After her experience on the Israel
2000 Birthright trip, Inna became very active in Hillel.
Her active involvment and passionate feelings for the Hillel
organization made her the best candidate for a needed staff
position. Linda, recognizing the jewel that she is, grabbed
the opportunity and she is now working here at Hillel, interacting
with everyone. Showing them what Hillel really is about. |
